DESCRIPTION:

The condo tower project is located in Montreal, on Sainte-Catherine shopping street, in the heart of the city. The model produced in 2020 enriches a personal collection. His execution lasted 3 weeks. Its overall dimensions are approximately 16 “x 16″ for a height of 28”.
The model was completed at a scale of 1:87. This scale allows you to enter a precise and rich level of detail, while allowing the representation and understanding of the concept of the project as a whole. The major challenge was to transcribe the two architectural principles of the project, particularly the large glass curtain facades in the upper residential part, and the commercial base in the lower part. It was therefore necessary to think of the realization of the upper part with the fewest possible joints, to work the assembly of the floors with these continuous facades while considering the staggering of the floors in order to best represent the concept.
The whole model is monochrome and was made in acrylic, white for the opaque elements, and sandblasted transparent to create the translucent aspect of the tower’s glazing. All the elements were first drawn digitally then engraved and cut by laser cutter before being manually assembled.
The tower is placed on a base representing, the immediate urban context. Everything is protected by a transparent acrylic cover. The model is built on a base of MDF on which the urban context is expressed through styrene and the integration of characters. The lighting is centrally positioned throughout the height of the tower so that it is evenly illuminated.

DESCRIPTION:

The condo tower project is located on Maisonneuve Street, in the heart of the city of Montreal. The model produced in 2020 enriches a personal collection.  Execution time for the model was 3 weeks. Its overall dimensions are approximately 32 “x 36″ for a height of 41”.The model, was produced at a scale of 1:87. This scale allows a refined level of detail, while allowing the representation and understanding the concept of the project as a whole. The upper part of the project is intended for housing while the first floors are dedicated to accommodating a commercial program. One of the challenges of the representation of the project the realization of the guardrails surrounding all the residential floors. It was necessary to ensure the regularity of the facade despite the great diversity of floor levels in the project.

The tower is placed on a monolithic base representing, in the form of simple volumes, the immediate urban context. Everything is protected by a transparent museum grade acrylic cover. The model is built on a base of painted MDF and the urban context is expressed through styrene and the integration of characters. The lighting is centrally positioned throughout the height of the tower so that it is evenly illuminated evenly as a whole.

DESCRIPTION:

The Saint-Charles Market Project is located in Ottawa’s Beechwood Village neighborhood. This project is situated on city block occupied by a historic church between Beechwood Avenue, St-Charles Street and Barrette Street. The model was commissioned by LineBox Studio to present the project to citizens and authorities. It was carried out in 2017 and its execution lasted about 10 weeks. The overall dimensions of the model are 36 x 24 inches for a height of 12 inches.

First, the model is at a scale of 1: 100. This scale allows to represent the church that occupies the center of the site with its architectural details such as the steeples. The base of the model was made of Russian birch plywood covered with a maple plating to identify the city block on which the project is implemented. For the building, linden wood was used to designate all cladding materials. Its texture has been worked to demonstrate the variations in the facade of the new projected building. This made it possible to standardize the aesthetics of the two buildings present on the site: the existing church and the new building with condos and thus support the architectural concept of a unified development where the new and the old occupy an equal place.

The glazing of the model was made of acrylic, because an LED lighting system was incorporated into the base of the model to illuminate it from below. Then trees, furniture and people add life throughout the project and help to communicate the project scale. Finally, the model is covered with an acrylic protection case and was delivered directly in Ottawa by Maquette.ca.

Point Zéro – Real Estate Project in Downtown Montreal

DESCRIPTION:

This model present the first iteration of the Point-Zéro tower project in Montreal. It is located in the downtown area at the corner of Bleury and René-Lévesque streets. This building dedicated to luxury condos and hotel was composed of an existing hotel on top of which was added an almond shaped tower. Karl Fischer Architect ordered this model in order to present the project’s development to Point-Zéro. The model was made in 2012 and its fabrication lasted between 8 to 10 weeks. Its overall dimensions are 20 x 10 inches for an overall height of 38 inches.

First, the model, all elements of which are fixed, is at a scale of 1:100. This scale makes it possible to precisely visualize how the the tower will establish it sell over the existing building. Despite the possibility of having a significant amount of detail at the chosen scale, this model is fairly basic and rather presents the essence of the project in its work of volumetry and composition of facades.

The main materials chosen for this model are molded acrylic which represents the glazed portions of the project and wood. Also, the acrylic was sandblasted to obstruct the view of the inside of the model that was not made in detail. The wood is presented gross and illustrates in a simplified way the structure and the envelope of the project as well as the neighboring building. In addition, the base has been made of a massive linden wood block and illustrates the topographic context in which the project is implemented.

Finally, the model is protected by a transparent acrylic case.

DESCRIPTION:

The Catherine Condominiums project is located in downtown Montreal on Sainte-Catherine street between Fort and Lambert Closse streets. The architect Fadi Coussa commissioned this model to serve as a promotional tool in the sales office of the new development. It was made in 2014 and its execution lasted between 6 to 8 weeks. The models approximate dimensions were 24 x 30 inches for an overall height of 26 inches.

First, the scale of 1:100 allows you to see the details of the treatment of the facades and the layout of the site in its context. The model presents the immediate context treated in an abstract way in order to maintain the focus on the new building.  Two types of materials were chosen for this model. On the one hand, the styrene-type plastic, which constitutes the entire envelope, for its plastic qualities and its ability to transmit colors faithful to those of the construction. On the other hand, the acrylic was used in a translucent sanded version for glasing. Then, to give the model the most realistic appearance possible, the envelope is textured and painted to imitate the look of the materials constituting the facades. Linden wood and solid acrylic were also used to represent the context.

The model was built on a 1,5-inch-thick Russian birch plywood base on which the landscaping and urban context are expressed through painted styrene sheets and dried plants. It’s base also includes a bottom LED lighting system that lights the tower. The model is hollow to allow complete illumination from below.

DESCRIPTION:

The Yoo condo project is located in Montreal’s Griffintown neighborhood. Philippe Starck/Construction Chapam Inc. commissioned this model to be used as a promotional tool at the group’s sales office. First, the model is at a scale of 1:100. This scale allows to enter into a precise and rich level of detail.

The strategy was therefore to build the tower as a whole with a simple and translucent treatment for floors and with a very high level of detail for the ground floor. Indeed, it is in this part of the project that we find all the public spaces, the pool and terraces. The model also allows to visualize the link that will maintain the future building with the street. The shutters found on the periphery of the ground level required particular attention to detail and a specific building strategy.

The two main materials chosen for this model are white styrene for its plastic qualities and transparent acrylic which was sanded to created a translucent effect for the windows of the tower.  All other glass parts are made of regular transparent acrylic. Thus, the model is entirely monochromatic, but bustling with added vegetation, furniture and characters. The tower is placed on a base representing the immediate urban context in the form of simple volumes. Finally, the completed model is protected by a clear acrylic box.

Unlike our standard lighting strategy by the base, for this model the lighting is positioned in the upper part of the model to allow down-lighting. This design allows the visible interior space to lit in a realistic way.

Mixed Use Development Project – De Lorimier Docks

DESCRIPTION:

The De Lorimier Docks project is located in the quadrilateral De Lorimier, Sainte-Catherine Est, Parthenais and René-Lévesque east of Montreal downtown area. This model was commissioned by Berthone Development Corporation Inc. and Nomade Architects to be used for promotional purposes. The project has a mixed-use programming of offices, businesses and residences that encompasses the entire block with a large garden space in the center of the project. The model was designed in 2013 and its execution lasted between 8 to 10 weeks. Its overall dimensions are around 24 x 40 inches of approximately 6 inches in height.

First, the model, of which all elements are fixed, is at a scale of 1:200. Because this allowed to visualize the whole of the project’s site in the existing urban context. The model also allows to appreciate the work of the different facades and volume variations. The buildings were made with a mix of materials: massive acrylic blocks for the core of the buildings as well as white styrene sheets in which patterns were cut to represent the composition work on facades. The rest of the buildings that constitute the urban context surrounding the site were made of linden wood blocks.

The base of the model was built out of Russian birch plywood on which landscaping is expressed through the addition of dried plants and flowers. The base also includes an integrated LED lighting system that is used to illuminate buildings from below. Overall, the model was made in a simple and sober aesthetic; linden and birch wood both being pale beige natural essences. The sanded acrylic buildings stand out from the rest of the context because of their plastic materiality, but fit harmoniously into the set of light shades.

DESCRIPTION:

The Jenkins neighborhood presents the first implementation phase of a vast community development in the Lachine sector of Montreal. Development Lachine-East commissioned this model in order to use it as an exhibit and sale tool at the new VillaNova development sales office. The model was designed between 2015 and 2016 and its execution lasted approximately 16 to 20 weeks. Its overall dimensions are roughly 48 x 72 inches for a height of approximately 6 inches.

The model is at a scale of 1:200, which allows to enter a precise level of detail while presenting the entire development. We built the individual buildings by carefully depicting the facade details as well as the outdoor spaces adjacent to the houses. We represented the desired atmosphere inside the neighborhood in addition to the relationship of the buildings to the street and the surrounding context. The base was made of Russian birch plywood finished with a linden wood plating to define the city blocks. In addition, these are underlined by the landscaping.  Moreover, to emphasize the project itself, the buildings surrounding the project are represented in a simplified way. Their volume offers a realistic context of insertion in the city and positions the project in all projected developments.

The two main materials chosen for this model are white styrene type plastic for its materialistic qualities as well as linden wood for its malleability. The assembly of these materials, at times dyed, has allowed to create different textures of facades while maintaining an esthetic harmony despite the different townhouses, duplex and condominiums included. Furthermore,  the whole model is animated by the addition of plants, cars and characters that help give a real insight to the customers of the character of the planned real estate development (see: https://villanovacanal.com/).
